A Case Study On Menopausal Symptoms & Rapid Ageing

Dealing with menopausal symptoms can be a challenging journey for many women, impacting various aspects of their well-being. From hair loss and hot flashes to interrupted sleep and weight gain, the list of concerns can seem never-ending. In a recent case study, we delved into the intricacies of these menopausal symptoms and rapid ageing to uncover a holistic approach to addressing these issues.

Lab recommendations were crucial in understanding our client’shealth status. A comprehensive hormonal panel and a thyroid test provided valuable insights into potential underlying factors contributing to the menopausal symptoms.

Lab Recommendations

  • Comprehensive Hormonal Panel
  • Thyroid Test

Lab Findings:

  • Normal cortisol levels during the day
  • Low functional TSH
  • High evening & bedtime cortisol
  • Low Vitamin D
  • Low sex hormones

The lab findings painted a detailed picture of our client’s health status. While cortisol levels during the day were within the normal range, notable findings included low functional TSH, high evening and bedtime cortisol, low Vitamin D, and diminished sex hormones. She was suffering from irregular menstrual cycles - not surprising given that the levels of progesterone, testosterone, estrogen, and DHEA were lower than optimal.

Understanding the impact of hormonal fluctuations is crucial. Low hormone levels can lead to diminished drive, lower libido, mood swings, and reduced energy levels. In many cases, conventional approaches might lean towards Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT), but our focus was on a more natural and holistic path.

The elevated cortisol levels later in the day had a profound effect on sex hormones, as the body prioritised survival over reproduction. Additionally, the impact of high cortisol at night on sleep quality was evident, hindering the much-needed restorative sleep!

Other contributing factors, such as a low functional thyroid and improperly supplemented Vitamin D, were identified, shedding light on the interconnectedness of various aspects of health.

Crafting a tailored wellness plan based on test findings and symptoms was imperative. The priority was addressing the high cortisol levels at night, with a focus on improving sleep quality. Simultaneously, tackling the issues related to the thyroid, including a hair tissue test to evaluate selenium levels and assess the presence of heavy metals, was crucial for overall thyroid function.

Taking a multi-faceted approach, the intervention involved nutrition adjustments, targeted supplements , and lifestyle modifications. Stress management played a pivotal role, as chronic stress depletes sex hormones and elevates cortisol levels, eventually leading to adrenal fatigue.
